Recently I have gotten involved with the Periscope app through Twitter and am hoping to use it to promote outdoor recreation to all people but especially to people who have extra challenges because of a disability. If you have read some of my other posts you know I truly love being outside and experiencing nature up close and personal. I am hoping that through my videos people can begin to see that a person is only limited by the amount of effort they put in to achieve something. If a person truly wants something anything is achievable. It may mean that they need extra help from a friend or organization such as Paradox Sports or Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation or the many friends that have helped me along the way in life to achieve some goals that otherwise would have been much harder on my own. I want my live videos or recorded depending on internet connectivity, to allow people to foster a love for the outdoors and what can be found within it.
This week I went to Grafton Notch State Park with my stepson Tanner, speaking of needing help, and we recorded a video tour of the park to show how accessible it is for someone using a wheelchair. As expected there wasn’t any cell service in the park so we were unable to use periscope but did the video anyway just to practice and figure out another way to make it happen
I will also be taking a road trip with my girlfriend Sandy to California in June. We will be periscoping at various points along the way to be able to show some of this country to people and show that using a wheelchair does not have to hinder a person’s experiences. So keep watching for that because we have some pretty amazing stops planned. I will also be blogging as we stop for the night. Below is the video Tanner and I did in the park. It is my first try and I am hoping they get better and better over time. I will be posting them as they are done and also put them on my Facebook. You can also follow me on Twitter @enock_glidden to watch my live broadcasts on Periscope.
