I know the title says Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas, but the first two I don’t really have much to talk about. Texas was fairly uneventful too but I have a few pictures to share and talk about.
Arkansas
Unfortunately the only story I have to tell about Arkansas is the major traffic backup caused by a tractor trailer hanging over a bridge. Google Maps conveniently warned me of this backup after I was already stopped dead on the interstate. So with no where to go I had to ride it out. At first Google said it would be a 22 minute wait. Ok no biggie. Nearly and hour and a half later we were finally getting off the exit. Before that though I did make an interesting observation. I decided to roll my window down and all of a sudden the woods on the side of the road sounded like they were electrified. I can only assume it was either locusts or cicadas but it was the most eerie yet interesting thing I had ever heard. It was so loud it was hard to think. As we approached the exit they were detouring everyone off my wait came into perspective. I saw a thoroughly demolished trailer truck hanging off the side of a bridge. I truly hope that trucker was ok but I have a feeling they weren’t. My day was not so bad.
Oklahoma
What can I say about Oklahoma? Well it’s flat and the wind blows a lot. Actually it was a beautiful state just not a lot of variety. I did watch an interesting documentary with my Aunt Connie and Uncle Odie when I got to California about the dust bowl. You should look it up and check it out. It is by Ken burns. I had no idea that part of the country had been over farmed and literally turned into a dust bowl where massive dust storms blew for a decade. It was so bad it actually drove people to the point of suicide.
Texas
You may notice the only pictures in this post are of Texas and it’s actually just a restaurant. In a way I was lucky I-40 only passes through the small top part of Texas.. I did however have to stop and have steak at The Big Texan. I had seen this restaurant on Man vs Food. The Big Texan is home of the free 72 oz steak but that’s only if you can eat the whole thing in under an hour. The dinner also includes baked potato, shrimp cocktail, salad & a bread roll. I knew there is no way I could put that away. So I went for the dukes special, named after John Wayne. It was sooooo good. I also had fried okra and mashed potato.
Sorry for the lack of highlights in this one but sometimes you just gotta drive to get where you are going.
Next time I will reveal my trip to Albuquerque and the Grand Canyon!
