Meeting the Man That Started It All

Today I got to meet the man that really started me on this path of finding a way to take people, who may not have access otherwise, on my adventures with me.  His name is Henry Evans and by chance, he happens to live about 20 mins from me.

I emailed him a few weeks ago to set up a time to meet for the first time after emailing back and forth for over a year.

I have actually mentioned Henry before in previous posts but if you haven’t had the chance to read all my posts yet, Henry is a man that was left a quadriplegic and a mute after a stroke about 14 years ago.  Since then though he has found his path in life once again.  He does Ted Talks on various things relating to technology and disability.  You should go to my YouTube videos page in the menu above, after reading this post of course and view his Ted Talks that I have posted and take the time to listen to what he has to say.

Today we spent a great deal of time just getting to know each other and talking about technology related things.  He has some very cool telepresence robots that he uses to see the world from his bed and be able to communicate with people that are near the robot.  It is called Beam. If you would like to check it out follow this link: https://suitabletech.com/beam/

He also is working on a number of other projects related to research and a project called Gateway that a man in Maryland started.  Gateway aims to put all disability-related resources into one searchable website so that the elderly and disabled people have a place to go to find information on whatever they may be dealing with.

Henry and his wife Jane are amazing people and I look forward to going back there to visit more before I have to leave to go back to Maine.

On an unrelated note, you will notice I have added some new features to my blog on the top menu.  You can now see all my YouTube and Instagram posts all in one place and there is a form for submitting ideas of places you might like me to go so that you might be able to see them through video (recorded or live), photos, or possibly a predefined drone path recording.

I look forward to reading your suggestions and can’t wait to start fulfilling some of your travel dreams!
