Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Sandy and I spent about 6 hours at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today.  I know I said this before but if you haven’t been you should go.  Even if you aren’t a huge music fan it is an amazing stroll through history.  I found myself choking up at the thought of how music and lyrics have influenced the world.

There was one section about the Vietnam War and how the artists of the time such as Jimi Hendrix used their music to say what they felt about the war and what was happening in the world.  They even influenced politics and society through their words.  I found myself feeling a connection to objects on display.  It was almost like reliving the history behind the objects.  When I was looking at the guitar that Jimi Hendrix used to play the famous Star Spangled Banner I was staring at the scratches realizing that he made those scratches. There was also a handwritten letter to his father when Jimi was in the military talking about how he would be getting out soon and asking about family and his girl back home.  He wondered if she was still good looking haha.  It was just a really cool thing to experience.

Then, of course, there was the Elvis Presley display and it had old letters he had written and his jumpsuits and even a trike that he owned.

There was also a huge amount of Beatles memorabilia on display including the drum kit Ringo Starr used to play.  We had to take Sandy’s picture with that.  It was interesting to see some of the very personal things of John Lennon’s and the other members.  It gives you a sense that you somehow know them after seeing that stuff which of course isn’t true but it’s as if you have a better understanding of the person.

It was also awesome to see how excited Sandy was about being there and seeing all her favorite artists memorabilia.  I think that is the part I enjoyed most was seeing that she really enjoyed the day.

I uploaded a ton of pictures to Facebook which I will link below so everyone can see.

Tomorrow will be my museum day at The National Museum of the US Air Force.  I can’t wait to see some planes I have never seen before and get up close to a lot of amazing memorabilia.  So check back tomorrow night for a lot of airplane pictures.
