Winter Wrap-Up and BIG News

This winter turned out to be a great learning experience for skiing in not so great conditions.  I had my ups and downs with sickness so I wasn’t able to hit the slopes as much as I would have liked but I still got in some pretty good days.

I was able to attend the Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation mono ski camp and had the opportunity to try out a new ski from DynaAccess.  It was an amazing ski and the owners of the company are very helpful in making the right adjustments to make the ski work perfectly for the user.  They have multiple shock adjustments to allow for a really tuned in ride experience for different levels of skiing from competition to just fun on the slopes.

I am currently in the process of writing a grant to finally get my own ski.  Having my own ski will allow me to fine adjust the setup to my own needs and it will be the same every time I ski.  This will enable me to progress in my skiing and not worry about relearning how to ski every time something changes.  I am hoping to get better in my racing skills as well and progress with the race team.  Unfortunately, I missed the race at Gunstock also due to illness but if there is snow we are going to race in Sunapee, NH this weekend.IMG_3965

Things were definitely icy and tough this season but Sunday River Ski Resort did an amazing job of making snow and keeping things groomed and in shape. In fact, they are still planning to make snow when possible.  Without the amazing team of snowmakers, there would not have been a ski season.  I also recently went skiing in some really spring-like conditions which made me learn to ski in adverse conditions.  The snow went from icy to soft to no snow at all in some areas so it was really challenging and interesting.

So for the BIG news.  I have accepted a paid internship in Palo Alto, CA working at FXPAL. Sandy is driving out with me and flying back. We are going to take a couple weeks to get there and try to see some of this country along the way. We will make a stop in Chicago so I can attend the TVX 2016 conference and deliver a position paper I have been asked to co-author.  I will be in California starting July 1st and staying until September 30th.  I will leave October 1st to head to Yosemite and climb  El Capitan.  A lot of my friends and I are currently in the process of raising the funds to make it happen through local presentation fundraisers and possibly a crowd sharing fundraiser as yet to be determined.  I am also talking to a very big company in the near future but will talk more about that once I have had the conversation and know a bit more details.  So stay tuned more details to come soon.
