4th of July and a sense of community

I spent my first weekend in Santa Clara, CA and it happened to be 4th of July weekend.  As always I went to Google and checked out what was going on in the area for festivities.  To my surprise there was a festival a mile from my apartment. After driving in California for a few days I decided it wasn’t worth it to drive a mile and just pushed myself to Central Park, not that Central Park haha.

It was a beautiful day as they all seem to be in this area so far. It was a fairly easy push as its all paved sidewalks and really flat.  I arrived at the park around 3 pm and it was filled with people. There were food trucks, water trucks and people even brought tents, a very smart idea.  I am going to have to remember that one for sure.

I picked a spot in the distance that was near the barricade around the stage.  I try to pick places like that so no one will stand and block my view.  It worked almost all day haha.  It turned out to be a really good choice to sit there as I met a really nice couple that lived not too far from there.  I spent the entire afternoon with them sharing their kettle corn and talking and enjoying some amazing bands.  The first band was a local school jazz band called Deja Vu.  They were really talented kids and have traveled all over the world playing their music.  The next band was Lydia Pence and Cold Blood.  They are local legends as I was told by Sandy, the nice lady of the couple I met.  They were amazing too.  The final band was a 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s cover band called Pop Fiction.  They were unbelievable.  I told my girlfriend Sandy and she googled them and found out they played at Tamera Mowry’s wedding.  She is one of the twins on a show called Sister Sister if you haven’t heard of her.  They really rocked the park and this is where my good view sort of went away because everyone was up and dancing.  That was OK though because as I was sitting there I looked around and realized there were people of all races, religions and any other adjective you would like to use and they were all just enjoying a day together celebrating their freedom to dance and do whatever they please.

As I watched this scene I thought to myself why can’t the world be like this everywhere.  A world where we can just dance and let loose and not care what color someone is or what god they worship or who they are voting for in the next election but just see them as another human being who likes to dance and have fun.

I  think this is what adventure does for me. It allows me the opportunity to make friends with like minded people who love doing what I do and it doesn’t matter what they do or who they are in the rest of their lives because for that one moment in time we are both adventurers doing what we love.

I tried to take some video but was too far away. I am going to upload it anyway so people can still hear  the music and see the scenes that I witnessed.
